Connect 3 Game

baltic birch, turmeric, beet juice

This project explores the intersection of woodworking and indigenous practices. Inspired by Three Sisters gardening, a traditional practice common in Indigenous cultures of the region, the game is designed to educate players about the planting method, its interdependent crops, and its cultural significance. The game pieces are stained with natural, land-based materials such as beets and turmeric, reflecting sustainable practices and a connection to the land. Through this project, the design emphasizes hands-on interaction, storytelling, and material experimentation, creating an engaging and meaningful experience that blends craft, culture, and education.

Process

This was one of my first projects, where I focused more on planning and ideation than on prototyping and making. It was a design that allowed me to explore and learn how to use the laser cutter, as well as experiment with natural stains.
