Dynamic Illumination - Pop-up Lamp
Walnut, Birch and Rice Paper
Created as part of Pollen Pals Studio, a collaboration formed around our shared allergies to birch pollen and stone fruits. Bloom explores the balance between irritation and beauty , finding harmony between what’s playful and what’s restrained.
At rest, it feels calm and grounded, its soft form echoing the quiet unfolding of a fruit in bloom. When lifted or popped up, it transforms, light fractures through the hidden base, casting fine lines across the space. The simple motion turns light into something interactive and personal, inviting a small moment of surprise and joy for the user.

Process
Starting with word mapping and sketches we began looking into blue sky concepts and mass ideation before narrowing down.
Inspired by the beautiful blossoms of spring, we explored many forms before arriving at our final lamp. Our goal was to create a design that is customizable and adaptable to the user’s needs, while also incorporating organic elements.
For our final prototype, we employed a variety of processes: laser cutting to create the organic cutouts on the top panels, lamination of veneer for the surfaces and cylinder, milling to produce the linear cuts in the walnut cylinder, 3D printing to create a channel for the LEDs, and soldering for the electrical components.
